Campus Policies
Westminster College is committed to providing a safe environment for our alumni and friends, faculty, staff and students. Please take a few minutes to review our campus policies prior to your upcoming visit.
Westminster College promotes a campus climate that encourages individuals to cultivate and exhibit mature, healthy, responsible, and lawful conduct relative to the possession and use of alcohol. Drunken behavior/intoxication, which is disrespectful, disruptive and potentially harmful, is not acceptable on campus or at College sponsored events.
Alumni, students and their on- and off-campus guests who choose to possess and/or consume alcoholic beverages are expected to abide by Missouri State and Federal laws, Westminster College policy, North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) Alcohol & Drug Guidelines, and local laws/ordinances regarding alcohol.
- Possession or use of alcohol by students or guests who are not 21 years of age is prohibited. Those who are 21 and at a registered event will be provided an armband specific to each event.
- Open containers are prohibited in public areas, including public streets, sidewalks, alleys, or public thoroughfares, or in any parking lots.
- Drinking games are prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, the consumption of shots of alcohol, “beer pong,” “dares,” “flip cup,” or any other activity involving the consumption of alcohol which mandates duress or encouragement related to the consumption of alcohol.
- Kegs of beer, party balls, or common source containers of alcohol one gallon or larger are not allowed anywhere on the campus.
- Event documentation is mandatory for all Alumni Weekend events where alcohol will be present, and must be submitted by the host student group to Student Life by Friday, March 25th.
- Any alcoholic beverage with an alcohol content (ABV) above 15% is prohibited in the fraternity housing/approved exterior locations. Hard alcohol above 15% will be disposed and/or confiscated by campus security or staff. Examples of prohibited alcohol that exceed 15% ABV include, but not limited to: Vodka, Gin, Rum, Whiskey, Tequila, Fortified Wine, Schnapps, Cognac, Jägermeister, and Everclear.
* Guests/alumni found in violation of these policies may be removed from campus, law enforcement involved as needed, and students may face conduct sanctions as outlined in the Student Handbook.
The presence or possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal substances, and misuse of legal (prescription) drugs are all regarded as violations of Westminster College’s policy.
Regardless of state and local law changes, institutions of higher education are expected to continue to abide by the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act by maintaining policies, which prohibit cannabis possession, use, or distribution. Medical and recreational cannabis is NOT permitted on campus under federal law.
In incidents where any professional staff member detects and confirms the odor of cannabis with no physical evidence, probable cause exists to authorize a search for controlled substances.
