Alumni Awards

Since 1956, the Alumni Awards program has recognized outstanding alumni living lives of success, significance and service. The following awards are presented annually during Alumni Weekend: the Alumni Achievement Award, the Young Alumni Award, the Jack Marshall Loyalty Award, and the Remley Award.

Drum roll, please: It’s the time of year our alumni have all been waiting for! Westminster College is excited to announce its esteemed 2025 Alumni Achievement Award honorees. The following nine highly accomplished individuals will be formally recognized during the Alumni Awards Convocation at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 12 in Champ Auditorium:

The Alumni Achievement Award

The Alumni Achievement Award honors alumni whose accomplishments reflect the Westminster mission and who have distinguished themselves through personal achievements, professional achievements and/or have made significant contributions to society.

Kenneth R. Burton, ’65 ΣΑΕ

Kenneth R. Burton of Katy, Texas, Class of 1965, is a distinguished U.S. Army Reserve veteran, legal professional and humanitarian whose career has impressively spanned military service, corporate law and global mission work.

After graduating with a degree in biology from Westminster, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, Burton served as an operations officer for the 31st Hospital Center in Philadelphia. In that capacity, he oversaw medical units across 14 states. Burton was later appointed as a mobilization designee by the U.S. Army Department of Defense, with worldwide medical operations under his jurisdiction at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. There, he prepared for immediate deployment in the event of a national emergency.

In the legal and corporate sphere, Burton made a lasting impact by creating the first Political Action Committee (PAC) for corporations, a precedent-setting initiative upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court that reshaped the landscape of American politics. His expertise in energy law further solidified his professional legacy. Beyond his legal career, Burton has devoted significant time and personal resources to global humanitarian efforts. His missions have provided medical aid, polio vaccinations and access to clean drinking water in remote villages worldwide.

 
Wendy A. Humphrey, ’95 ΚΑΘ

Wendy A. Humphrey of Lubbock, Texas, Class of 1995, is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Director of Assessment and Brock Professor of Law at Texas Tech University School of Law in Lubbock, Texas.

Deeply committed to legal education and the profession itself, Humphrey is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Faculty Distinguished Leadership Award, the President’s Excellence in Diversity & Equity Award and the Chancellor’s Council Distinguished Teaching Award — the highest teaching accolade in the Texas Tech system. Humphrey’s scholarship focuses on women's decision-making rights as well as gender equity and assessment, with her work appearing in leading law journals such as the Cardozo Law Review and the William & Mary Journal of Women and the Law.

Throughout the course of her career, Humphrey has served in numerous leadership roles, including as chair of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) section on Associate Deans for Academic Affairs & Research and chair of the AALS section on Legal Writing, Reasoning and Research. She has also served on the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors and the Texas Board of Disciplinary Appeals. Humphrey currently serves on the statewide Law-Focused Education Inc. Board of Directors and is an active member of the Legal Writing Institute and the Association of Legal Writing Directors.

At Westminster, Humphrey majored in psychology, graduating magna cum laude before continuing her education at Texas Tech, where she earned an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction, summa cum laude, as well as her juris doctorate.

In her free time, Humphrey stays connected to her Westminster roots through her involvement with the Kappa Alpha Theta alumnae board in Lubbock. Additionally, she and her husband, Timothy Matis, enjoy traveling, cooking and sports.

George W. Mahn III, ’92 ΣΑΕ

George Mahn III of Dallas, Texas, Class of 1992, is a musical artist, composer, producer and proprietor of Gentry Avenue Productions, which was established in 2000.

Following successful corporate management positions in business and information technology operations, Mahn revived a lifelong dream and debuted original repertoire to critical acclaim and radio airplay under the band name Vertical Leap. Since 2002, Mahn’s tracks have been broadcast regularly on a variety domestic and international terrestrial stations, including SiriusXM, as well as internet channels. Additionally, his genre-bending discography has underscored marquee programs, motion pictures and arts productions.

Through the years, Mahn’s many musical collaborations have segued into producing projects, garnering producer and sound engineer award nominations. He has co-produced artist showcases and live concerts, including benefits for the Dallas Police Department Honor Guard, the DFW Rescue Me canine adoption organization and Vintage Racers for Rescues canine and feline foster group. His benefit work has also included collecting coats for homeless veterans of Dallas.

Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Mahn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in English with an emphasis in literary analysis from Westminster after previously studying jazz guitar at Webster University. He has served on the Westminster College Alumni Council and has received accolades for volunteer leadership with the Missouri Gamma chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, as well as the national organization.

Mahn is a dual member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) as well as SoundExchange. He also actively supports the Copyright Alliance. He muses about his life adventures via his blog, Vertical Tales.

Jeffrey M. Palmer, Class of 1999, is a senior vice president, senior portfolio management director, global sports and entertainment director, institutional consultant and financial advisor with Graystone Consulting of Morgan Stanley.

With more than 25 years of experience in financial services, Palmer is noted for serving institutional clients as well as a select group of individuals, including professional investors, entrepreneurs, sports team owners and others in sports and entertainment. As a senior portfolio management director, Palmer manages various discretionary equity strategies, ranging from core equity to dividend growth equity to sustainable equity investing.

Palmer earned a B.A. in business administration with a concentration in finance from Westminster, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and Blue Blazers Investment Committee ― a student-run organization he credits with helping launch his career.

Currently, Palmer serves in a leadership role at his local church and chairs the Business Advisory Council at the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress. He is also a board member of Boston Scores in Boston, Massachusetts, which helps urban youth build essential life skills and character through soccer and team-based enrichment programs. In addition, Palmer is one of the founding owners of the National Women’s Soccer League team in Boston. He resides in the greater Boston area with his wife and son.

Anne E. (McIntosh) Schneider, ’85 ΚΑΘ      
Posthumously Awarded - Accepted by Her Husband, Raymond Schneider

Anne E. McIntosh Schneider of Jefferson City, Missouri, Class of 1985, died on Aug. 24, 2024, and is the posthumous recipient of Westminster’s Alumni Achievement Award.

Schneider showed true devotion to her alma mater throughout her lifetime. She served on Westminster’s Board of Trustees and proceeded to chair the Board’s Student Life and Academic Affairs committees. Schneider was granted emeritus status in 2016. An active member of the Epsilon Iota chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta since pledging the women’s fraternity as a student, Schneider served in a number of capacities following her graduation from Westminster. She was a proud chapter advisor and advisory board chair as well as Facility Corporation president and secretary for the chapter.

At Westminster, Schneider majored in political science and participated in an exchange program with Durham University in Durham, England, as a Cranshaw Scholar. She then attended law school at the University of Missouri, graduating with her juris doctorate in 1988. Schneider immediately began working in the Consumer Protection Division for the Missouri Attorney General that same year. In 2002, Schneider was appointed as counsel to the Antitrust Division for the Missouri Attorney General’s office, where she participated in several major national enforcement cases. She retired in 2016 to pursue a passion for travel.

Schneider gave back to her community by being actively involved in a number of committees, associations and organizations, including in the First Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Capital Region Board of Governors, Historic City of Jefferson, Jefferson City Council of the Arts, Mid-Missouri St. Andrews Society and Jefferson City Hands Together.

In addition to her husband, Raymond, Schneider is lovingly remembered by a son, Raymond III; a daughter by marriage, Katie; and two grandchildren, Avery and Aiden.

 

The Young Alumni Achievement Award

The Young Alumni Achievement Award recognizes alumni who demonstrate the Westminster mission through outstanding achievement early (within 5-15 years) in their chosen career and/or dedicated leadership and service to their community.

Alyssa (Baker) Lankford, ’14 ΚΑΘ

Alyssa (Baker) Lankford of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Class of 2014, is an attorney at McAfee & Taft in Oklahoma City who served for two years as a federal judicial clerk to the Honorable Glenn T. Suddaby, then-chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York.

Lankford graduated with a degree in transnational studies and Spanish from Westminster, where she was involved with a variety of campus organizations, including Student Ambassadors, Student Foundation and Kappa Alpha Theta. She then spent two years as a full-time elementary school teacher and part-time elementary content specialist with Teach for America.

In 2019, Lankford graduated in with distinction from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, where she served as the editor-in-chief of the American Indian Law Review, volunteered as a court-appointed special advocate for CASA, received multiple awards for academic excellence and was inducted into the National Order of Scribes. At graduation, Lankford received the Professional Responsibility Award, which is voted on by members of the graduating class and awarded to the graduating student who best exemplifies the spirit of professional responsibility and leadership.

Outside of work, Lankford gives back to her community through her involvement with the Innovative Board of the Children’s Health Foundation: a nonprofit organization that supports research, education and care of children in Oklahoma. The foundation’s mission is uniquely personal to Lankford, who is an adolescent bone cancer survivor. In her free time, Lankford enjoys spending time with her husband, Andrew Lankford, Class of 2014 and a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, their son, Reid and their two dogs. Lankford loves to read, spend time outside and travel.

Matthew D. Greaves, DDS, ’10 ΔΤΔ

Matthew D. Greaves, DDS, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Class of 2010, is a native of St. Louis who was named the 2023 Air National Guard’s Dentist of the Year and was recognized by the Delta Tau Delta fraternity as a “40 Under 40” recipient. He currently serves as the sole dental provider for the 131st Bomb Wing of the Missouri Air National Guard, where he oversees the readiness of more than 1,000 airmen who are tasked with both state and federal activations.

Greaves majored in biology at Westminster, where he was involved with a number of organizations, including the Skulls of Seven as well as Delta Tau Delta. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Dentistry. Greaves completed his residency at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, where he earned a master’s degree while providing dental care to patients with special needs beyond the scope of routine outpatient services, including those fighting head and neck cancer. After his residency, Greaves returned to St. Louis and gained multiple academic and hospital appointments. During that time, he oversaw the training of dental students and residents, secured grant funding to deliver free dental care to

financially impoverished patients struggling with head and neck cancer and aided in establishing a program for the delivery of hospital-based, special-needs dentistry.

Greaves proudly served his country through a deployment to the Middle East and served his fellow Missourians by co-leading a medical mission that provided more than $1.8 million of no-cost care to the citizens of southeast Missouri. Today, Greaves gives back to Westminster by remaining connected to Delta Tau Delta as a chapter advisor and as a prior member of the Blue Jay Road Crew and Alumni Council.

Greaves is happily married to his wife, Audrey, and enjoys being a father to his two young sons, Joshua and Caleb.

 

The Jack Marshall Alumni Loyalty Award

Established in 2009 and renamed in his honor in 2012, the Jack Marshall Alumni Loyalty Award is bestowed upon alumni who have demonstrated exceptional loyalty, commitment, and dedication to the College through contributions of time, talent, and treasure.

Originally from Higginsville, Missouri, Timothy S. Steinbeck majored in sociology, psychology and anthropology at Westminster while also being actively involved in Phi Delta Theta ― a fraternity he has served faithfully for decades.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Westminster in 1982, Steinbeck worked eight years in the jewelry business with Zales Corporation and the Shane Company. In 1990, he moved back to Fulton, Missouri, to launch his career in the printing industry, accepting a job with the Ovid Bell Press, now Walsworth, thanks to Westminster’s then-Placement Director Sally Reynolds. Today, Steinbeck is an account executive with Modern Litho in Jefferson City, Missouri, where he has served for eight years as a vendor for Westminster, printing Leadership magazine and working closely with the College’s Offices of Enrollment Services and Institutional Advancement.

Throughout his time in Fulton, Steinbeck has devoted countless hours to the local community, serving on the boards of the Callaway County United Way and YMCA for nine and 22 years, respectively. In addition, Steinbeck has demonstrated his faithfulness to the College by serving on Westminster’s Alumni Council from 2017 through 2022. He also has been involved in several capital campaigns for both the College and Phi Delta Theta.

Truly devoted to his fraternity, Steinbeck served as Phi Delta Theta chapter advisor from 1991 to 1994 and 2013 to 2018. He currently is the province president for the Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity.

 

The Remley Award

The Remley Award celebrates women who have shown exceptional passion and support for the women of Westminster College, emulating the spirit of the award’s namesake, Dr. Audrey Remley.

Shelby Rufkahr, Director of Alumni Engagement, encourages the extended Westminster community to attend the awards convocation, which is among a number of events during Alumni Weekend, April 11-13.

“We are gearing up for what promises to be a truly exciting gathering of alumni from across the country,” Rufkahr reflects, adding that reunions are planned for the Classes of 1970, 1975, 1985, 1995, 2005 and 2015. “We encourage the alumni community to attend the awards convocation to cheer on our honorees, to reconnect with their Westminster family and to rediscover their alma mater.”

The Westminster Alumni Awards Convocation has recognized outstanding alumni since 1956. Honorees were nominated by their peers and voted on by the College’s Alumni Council.

Young Alumni Achievement Award

(2 awards presented each year)

Awarded to alumni who demonstrate the Westminster College mission through outstanding achievements early in their chosen career or through dedicated leadership and service to their community.

Eligibility:

  • Graduate of Westminster College between 5 and 15 years prior to nomination
  • Not a current member of the Alumni Council

Alumni Achievement Award

(3-6 awards presented each year)

Awarded to alumni whose accomplishments reflect the Westminster College mission and who have distinguished themselves through personal or professional achievements or significant contributions to society.

Eligibility:

  • Graduate of Westminster College 15 years or more prior to being nominated
  • Not a current member of the Alumni Council

Jack Marshall Alumni Loyalty Award

(1 award presented each year)

Awarded to alumni who have demonstrated exceptional loyalty, commitment, and dedication to Westminster College through contributions of time, talent, and treasure.

Eligibility:

  • Graduate of Westminster College
  • No minimum age requirement, but sufficient time should have passed since graduation to demonstrate on-going commitment to the college
  • Not a current member of the Alumni Council

Remley Award

(1 award presented each year)

Awarded to a woman who has shown exceptional passion and support for the women of Westminster College, emulating the spirit of Dr. Audrey Remley, the first full-time female professor at Westminster and the award’s namesake.

Eligibility:

  • Female graduate of Westminster College, no minimum age requirement
  • Not a current member of the Alumni Council

*Completed nominations must be submitted via the Westminster College website, and should include a support letter with a detailed description of the nominee’s accomplishments and contributions to the college. Other supporting documentation, such as a resume, LinkedIn profile, press releases, or media articles, may also be submitted.

*The Alumni Council reviews all nominations and selects recipients; all nominees remain in the “pool” of nominations for up to three years or until they have been selected for an award.

*Recipients are strongly encouraged to attend the Alumni Weekend Awards Ceremony IN PERSON, however arrangements may be made for remote attendance in cases of extenuating circumstances. Recipients are asked to give a 5-7 minute speech during the ceremony.
