Short Term Programs

Can’t fit a semester abroad into your academic plan? Then consider participating in a short-term program during the summer or winter. Many of our exchange partners and providers offer summer and winter programs from three to six weeks in which you can take upwards of nine credit hours depending on the program. These programs typically run from May to June in the summer and December to January in the winter. Short-term programs usually include built in excursions and cultural activities.

The Asian Studies Summer Program offers a well-rounded introduction to Japanese language and culture. By combining semi-intensive Japanese language classes with a series of lectures and field trips, students are able to gain a basic understanding of Japanese language and society. The program is designed to cover a wide range of topics from Japanese pop culture and current political issues to time-honored traditions and history through lectures and site visits. The Summer Program is offered for six weeks in June and July when the program for local students is in full operation, allowing for active interactions with local students. Cultural activities include field trips to Kyoto, Nara and Osaka.

Hanyang International Summer School (HISS) is one of Korea’s leading summer programs. During the 4-week program, HISS offers world-class education combined with a variety of unique cultural experiences for students from around the world. Students can register for a maximum of three courses from ten different subjects including Korean Language, International Studies, Business, and more. Cultural activities have included a Nanta Show, Korean Food Cooking Class, DMZ Tour, and the Mud Festival. Hanyang University also offers a three to four-week winter program.

Università Cattolica's summer and winter programs are ideal to get a taste of Italy while studying in a traditional Italian educational context. UCSC allows students to make the most of a summer or winter in Italy while receiving credits for short-term 2 to 3-week courses from a variety of academic areas such as Business, Marketing and Communication, International Relations, and more.. USCS's location at the heart of Milan gives students access to local cultural centers, fashion shows, operas, and other exhibitions.

LSE’s Summer Schools provide an unmissable opportunity for students to share in LSE’s tradition of academic excellence over a short period of time. Summer Schools are offered in June, July and August each year for three, six or nine weeks, delivering three-week intensive courses from a diverse range of disciplines including Business and Management, Accounting, Finance, Law, Economics, International Relations, and more. LSE Summer Schools also include excursions around London plus day-trips to Cambridge and Oxford.

Aberystwyth University’s Identity and Nationhood Summer School is a 3-week summer school that brings together experts from a range of disciplines and backgrounds to explore the nature and implications of such claims for contemporary politics. Through a combination of taught sessions and field trips, the program offers an exciting opportunity to discuss these issues from a Welsh, British and international perspective. The program is broad enough to engage students from a variety of fields, but it will be of particular interest to students studying Political Science, Global and Transnational Studies, and History.

The University of East Anglia’s Summer University is a multi-disciplinary program with a focus on the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals. The program has a 2 or 4-week option, during which time students will develop their academic and presentation skills for graduate employment, tackle global challenges, and learn from business professionals and UEA faculty.

The University of Oviedo offers a generously priced 150 hour intensive Spanish language course for four to five weeks from May to June. Oviedo facilitates accommodation with local families in order to foster a greater degree of student integration.

L'Université Catholique de l'Ouest (UCO) - Angers, France https://www.cidef.uco.fr/navigation/academics/learning-french/summer-programmes/

UCO offers intensive French language summer programs through the Centre of French as a Foreign Language (CIDEF) in which you can study with other non-native speakers. Programs include week, several-week or a month-long intensive language courses in July, August or September. Monthly courses offer students 80 contact houses plus cultural activities and excursions. CIDEF programs are not included in the reciprocal exchange agreement meaning that students will pay all fees directly to UCO.

Université de Bourgogne CIEF - Dijon, France https://cief.u-bourgogne.fr/en/intensive-summer-courses

CIEF offers intensive courses at the University of Burgundy designed for non-native French speakers wishing to learn or improve their knowledge of French. Summer courses are offered from June to September and run for two to eight weeks depending on the period students enroll in. Contact hours for language courses are between 17 and 22 each week, depending on the level.  The program offers workshops, lectures on subjects of general cultural interest, and a variety of optional courses. For accommodations students have the choice of either international student residence or a home stay with a French family.
