Communications
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) governs communication between members of the professional academic in the Tomnitz Family Learning Opportunities Center (LOC), students, parents, and members of Westminster College's faculty and staff. Please refer to the full explanation of FERPA compliance provided by the Registrar's Office.
Students enrolled in the LOC's programs may agree to waive their FERPA rights in order to support communication between members of the LOC's professional academic staff, members of Westminster College's faculty and staff, and parents. They are free at any time to revoke this waiver as well.
In order to preserve the confidentiality of communications by and trust between members of the professional academic staff and students enrolled in the LOC's programs, students must sign and date an additional authorization for the acquisition and release of information (see Appendix J) to allow members of the professional academic staff to communicate about students with members of the faculty; the Office of the Associate Dean and Dean of the Faculty; the Director of and Administrative Assistant in the Office of Residential and Greek Life; the Director and Assistant Director of the Center for Career Development; the Executive Director, Counselors, and Nurse Practitioner in the Wellness Center; and the Dean, Assistant Dean, and Executive Assistant in the Office of Student Life.
Students must also sign and date an authorization for the acquisition and release of information (see Appendix J) to allow members of the LOC's professional academic to release information from the student's evaluation conducted to establish the diagnosis of a neurodevelopmental disorder and/or other disorders to members of the faculty; the Office of the Associate Dean and Dean of the Faculty; the Director of and Administrative Assistant in the Office of Residential and Greek Life; the Director and Assistant Director of the Center for Career Development; the Executive Director, Counselors, and Nurse Practitioner in the Wellness Center; and the Dean, Assistant Dean, and Executive Assistant in the Office of Student Life.
