What I teach: Mathematics
How I help online students succeed: I help online students succeed by being available to assist them. Math and statistics can be challenging subjects, so making sure I am available and approachable is the first step to helping students succeed. I want to use students’ prior experiences to inform me about how to approach concepts and how professions utilize the skills being practiced in the course. By assigning practice that is similar to what they will see on assessments, I make sure to emphasize concepts that they need to understand in order to be successful.
My online teaching philosophy: Online classes give students a chance to take their time and get the personalized experience that they need to succeed. By providing multiple options for learning concepts, students can complete the minimum practice required to gain mastery over course standards while having access to more options to support learning concepts they have not mastered. Online classes provide the opportunity to focus on what students need to be successful.
How I make a difference: I want to help connect students to opportunities for programs, courses, jobs, internships, and graduate schools to maximize their experiences while in higher education.
Fun fact about me: I am a first-generation college student. I hold certifications in mathematics and chemistry in the state of Missouri, and I earned an MA in education from Truman State University.
